EITI marks Latvia’s National Day in East Yorkshire
The Howden-based interpreting and translation company EITI is celebrating Latvia’s National Day - 18 November - by helping local people to find out more about the country.
The East Riding of Yorkshire has a small Latvian population, and EITI is publishing a list of ‘10 things you didn’t know about Latvia’ to mark the Baltic nation’s big day.

“The idea for this came from a series of educational workshops we put together for local schools,” says Carolyn Burgess, EITI’s Chief Executive.
“People - especially children - love learning about other countries and cultures. We hope that everyone will find something of interest in our list of facts about Latvia.”
Latvia has a total population of 2.3 million, and the number of Latvians living in Britain is relatively small. According to the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia, 113 people emigrated from Latvia to Britain during 2004. This flow was balanced almost exactly by the 111 Britons who emigrated to Latvia during the same year.
