National Occupational Standards in Interpreting

The final drafts of the revised National Standards in Interpreting are now available for public consultation. EITI, which was part of the steering group for this project, is encouraging all interested parties to review the draft documents, and send feedback and comments to CILT, the National Centre for Languages.

Message from CILT

CILT, the National Centre for Languages is currently leading a review of the National Occupational Standards in Interpreting. We have aimed to bring together key stakeholders, interpreting professionals, trainers and assessors, professional bodies and awarding bodies across the UK to reach consensus on the features of competence (i.e. the performance, knowledge and skills) required in professional interpreting. Many thanks to all those who have contributed to the consultation process.

We are now approaching the final phase of the project and would now like views on the revised Standards, which are based directly on the results of our consultation. Please send your comments by e-mail to Gill Musk. The deadline for feedback is Tuesday 8 November 2005.

Many thanks for your time.
