| EITI backs Olympic bid
Date: 1 November 2005
Five candidate cities are bidding to host the 2012 Olympic Games: London, Madrid, Moscow, New York and Paris. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will make its final decision at a meeting in Singapore in July 2005.
The IOC will be visiting London in February 2005. In preparation for this visit, the Regional Language Network (RLN) London is putting together a briefing paper on the capital’s cultural strength and expertise.
EITI has submitted the following contribution to RLN London, highlighting London’s track record in supporting and promoting multilingual communication.
It is widely
acknowledged that London is one of the most ethnically
diverse cities in the world, with over 300 languages
being spoken within its 33 boroughs.
What sets London apart
from the world’s other great cosmopolitan
capitals, however, is the unparalleled commitment
of its key public authorities to the removal of
language and cultural barriers.
