Our top 10 is a list that ranks languages by the number
of interpreter requests received from public sector staff
in the UK. The data used to compile the top 10 includes
requests for both telephone and face to face interpreters
from staff working within the NHS, the police, local
government and other public authorities.
Our top ten languages for 2007 are largely unchanged
from the previous year, with Arabic, Turkish, Polish
and Farsi continuing to fill the top four places. Portuguese
and Mandarin move up one place to fifth and sixth respectively,
while Bengali drops down two places to seventh.
